When finding ground transit upon leaving, walk along the sidewalk close to the terminals until reaching the kind you need, then cross over to the p/u island. Don't walk from island to island.
You can walk between all terminals 4 through 8. This really expands your dining and drinking options!

LAX seems to always be under construction. Traffic is also super unpredictable once you get into the main loop. Best airport for flying into the west side of LA.
If you have an early flight, 5am our earlier, the TSA preapproved section is not open.. You can show your boarding pass and not take off your shoes, but laptop/tablets have to come out. If you are reading about some cool thing in another terminal (and if you have time), remember that terminals 4 (TBIT) and higher are connected by tunnels. No need to go through security.
Walk around the different arrival terminals to find an empty spot for waiting. Right before the exit gaps is ideal!

Lemonade at gate 52 is always delish! Especially when it comes to vegetarian options. Try the chili!
The lines are crazy long, but they also move pretty fast. The security folks have it down to a science. You never know though, I'd still get here 2 hrs before your flight.

When travelling with a buddy, NEVER BOOK ON SEPARATE AIRLINES. I flew Virgin. He flew Alaska. We were literally at the 2 furthest terminals you could be at LAX... Hope you enjoy long walks!!

For how large of an airport this is, it is always well organized and security is typically pretty fast!

- Almost 15$ for a sandwich in Terminal-5(Delta) "Original Farmers Market" is exorbitant. You pay 5$ in the "Seven Eleven" shop in the arrival level in the International-Terminal.

My least favorite airport for international connections, up there with CDG for poor connecting experience, but without the reward of good amenities.

Erin MDecember 3, 2013Correction: you cannot now ALWAYS use your mobile device. You may if you are travelling on a US carrier. All other carriers have different rules and most have not passed this law yet.
If you're on a long layover, Encounters is the best place to wait it out. Barbarella-style 70's decor with a view of the runways makes you feel like the swinging jet-setter you are.

What an incredible shitstain this airport is. Useless shuttles (all are for parking and employees - so get ready to walk for 30 minutes to your terminal through clouds of exhaust, weed, and urine).
Decent airport. Lounges here are awesome. The stores are often super far away from the departing gates.
