    Can't even say how cool it is to be able to see the word famous pictures for free. Better to visit in August (not weekends) - no crowd you'll see

    Start your visit a little early as you may need more than a day to browse all those marvellous paintings plus there are loads to see nearby at the National Portrait Gallery.

    The building that houses the portraits is a work of art itself. Lots of mosaic work on the floors and walls of the stairwells. Look up often.

    In case you wandered in too fast to notice the key on your way in, the wallpaper in each room is colour coded by time periods: BLUE = 1250-1500, RED = 1600-1700, GREEN = 1700-1900.

    An art museum on Trafalgar Square, definitely take one of the free guided tours at 11:30AM or 2:30PM. Get there via Charing Cross stop on the Bakerloo or Northern lines.

    A lovely place to visit. It's massive, so put on comfy shoes. Also, no photography of any kind is allowed which is a bummer and sort of nonsensical.

    I love it! The two times I was in London I needed to visit and see my favorite painting: Les Parapluies. Reserve at least a whole evening to fully appreciate the museum.

    Best to start with room 58 area (Italian 1500s boticelli) and then work your way down the ages. Open till 9pm on Friday nights!

    Free entrance, but you can rent an audio guide for £4 and learn more about the paintings. Worth it.

    I love small-scale models and if you enter on the much quieter, less busy Orange St. entrance you will see the model of Trafalgar Square once you ascend the stairs.

    Check out the French section it displays paintings of women in the nude, gives an idea of what sexy meant back in the day. So not Victoria secret lol!

    Suggested donation 4 pounds- map 1 pound - audio 3.50 pounds. The audio is alright- lots of works covered. There are one hour tour suggestion flyers- ask for one. (if thats all the time you have)
