- Spoon CarvalhoJune 12, 2017Huge Airport. Make sure you use the tram system to get from terminal to terminal.
- JD MaloneSeptember 9, 2017Security here is a nightmare. Arrive plenty early for your flight or you will be screaming by the time you board your flight.
- Add (decent) shopping options (e.g., Pink, mom-and-pop boutiques, make up stores, even a CVS)
- Christopher MaloneJune 26, 2013Longest security line I've ever seen by a factor of 10. Amazing really. Definitely arrive 90 min early so you don't miss your flight too.
- It's a large airport with a lot of distance between gates. Make sure you leave yourself enough time from dropping off your rental car to your flight.
- The airport is well run and the management and staff are very friendly and helpful
- As someone who lives in Maryland I honestly hate driving to IAD but... The long distance non-stops make up for the misery. #HowQuicklyWeForgetPain #MdPeopleHateDrivingOverTheBridgeToVa
- Josh E.October 4, 2014If you are flying to a place that doesn't have a five guys, grab one from the joint at the end of terminal B. Best burger in America.
- Juliana AlvesDecember 22, 2016Few options to eat before you pass security. If you miss your flight you're lost!
- Nidia PolancoApril 17, 2017I spent 7 hours here.. and I enjoyed it! Really good food and smokers lounge 🙌🏼
- Liz LunaMay 31, 2013Always come early, all the terminals are clearly labled but the airport is very large and it's a hike to get from one side to another.
- There is a huge shoulder on the left on the way into the airport. It seems like a great “cell phone waiting area.” Legal?
- DoubleTree by Hilton ManagerSeptember 22, 2011Long flight? Peanuts are okay, but bringing a filling, healthy snack like almonds or fruit will keep you tied over until your destination. For more travel tips and fun, follow @DoubleTree on Twitter!
- Have an hour before your United flight? Hop over to Terminal B before your flight to grab Chipotle or a glass of wine or beer at Starbucks!
- Even with trains shuttling you to the different terminals, it's still a walk to get from the trains to the actual terminal. Be prepared to pick up your pace!
- You can use Uber.com to get a black sedan to or from DC. The flat rate of $80 to/from inside the beltway is comparable to taxi fare and is a LOT better service!
- The Dulles Diamond Security Point referenced in the other tip WAS amazing and convenient for frequent flyers but now they allow anyone so it gets just as backed up as any other checkpoint. So sad...
- DCA-Regan is easier to navigate but Dulles has more coast-to-coast directs. Expect bumpy landing due to strong winds!
- Moe's near the C gates has a pretty decent breakfast. The Bloody Mary can be fairly strong, which is how it should be.
- Harald B.August 16, 2014In case you are in transit and happen to be in concourse C/D you obtain a boarding pass at the UA desk at D20
- Airline Geeks / Ryan EwingOctober 7, 2013Check out Daily Parking Garage 2 Level 5 for unique views of the airport.
- If you are in the d gates - take the train to the c gates and walk. Far faster and more comfortable than the 1970s people mover
- There's a Dunkin Donuts just outside of both United gates and before baggage claim. Get your morning brew!
- Connie CrosbyNovember 9, 2013Starbucks Evenings - serves wine, small plates, truffle mac & cheese - Gate B47
- Everything about Dulles is great. Easy access, easy parking and easy gates.
- Yasser MonkachiSeptember 1, 2013If your hungry try the Tomato-Basilic-mozarella aka TBM Sandwich in the COSI Resto, a must taste !
- Grab a meal at the Subway in the Z gate area before taking the monster truck over to the D gates. Shorter lines = faster +better service.
- Follow the Dulles Food and Shops on Twitter @IADFoodandShops to stay informed about the latest retail and restaurant specials. Read more
- Jacquinn ScalesSeptember 24, 2014Had an awesome time hanging in DC yesterday and now it's time to say goodbye bye. This is random but I like boarding these little express jets, it be making a brotha feel all presidential and stuff.
- ToneJanuary 2, 2015Free wifi and quick checkin and security. The Air France lounge is chilled with complimentary alcohol
- Stephanie WilliamsJuly 28, 2013The staff here is amazing, including customs!! They actually smile, joke and have fun! Made visiting here easy and not stressful
- Fuddruckers is a great place for breakfast.. Specially the egg, cheese and bacon sandwich :) comes with a hash brown!
- People mover for terminal D and the underground train for terminal C. But you can walk between both terminals so grab the least crowded option.
- If you're TSA Pre and traveling with someone who is not go to pre check and your companion can use the neighboring aisle....faster than the downstairs mess!!!
- Zain M.August 9, 2014There is free Wi-Fi, extremely well maintained with great choices of places to eat.
- Amy LewOctober 11, 2011If you're in Terminal C, head all the way back to C2 and eat at Potbelly's. Beats all the food closer to the AeroTrain. Also, now with Free WiFi!
- When arriving on an international flight, try to stay at the front of the mobile lounge bus. This will put you in pole position to not have as long a passport line (unless 2 other 747s just unloaded!)
- Get there early, security can be a pain and getting to your gate can take time as well.
- This airport is huge so budget extra time. The upside is that you can go almost anywhere in the world from this hub.

- Diana BurkeNovember 25, 2014Service was great dealing with my connecting flight. Took this picture in one of the gift shops.
- John MasciFebruary 11, 2014INSANELY spread out. Give yourself +30-40 minutes. Shuttle to tram to this weird elevated bus on the Tarmac. I walked over 1.6 miles from door to plane.
- etta yOctober 8, 2010You can make Super Shuttle reservations online. It's easy, you can't miss your ride, and it costs about half the price of a cab and takes half the time of the train (when going to Bethesda).
