- Christian DickmannApril 28, 2015Get Pork Soup Dumplings as appetizer. Hot Sour Cucumber, Dan Dan Noodles were good too. Loved the "chicken w crispy chili peppers". "Mei Shan Beef" great too. Han Dynasty was slightly better though.
- Yoni ZloczewskiSeptember 21, 2015Mapo Tofu has the right amount of heat and it isn't gloppy in texture. The dry sautéed string beans are simple but delicious. The three pepper chicken is a crowd pleaser as is the cumin lamb.
- My new favorite MaPo tofu. Get it with the cumin lamb and the chicken fried rice. Soup dumplings are solid but not remarkable.
- If you love spicy Sichuan cooking, this place is heaven. Superb menu and amazing dishes, with the diminutive menu finish "American Chinese food." Current favorite Chinese restaurant in NYC.
- Village VoiceMay 31, 2012According to our food critic Robert Sietsema, the addition of cumin to the Lamb with Cumin Flavor is a “wonderful surprise.” No wonder it’s ranked number 4 on his top 10 lamb dishes in NYC.
- Real Cheap EatsNovember 5, 2012Try the hot and sour sweet potato noodle soup ($7) and enjoy the mouth-numbing sensation of slippery noodles bathed in a hot chili-oil broth, studded with bits of ground beef, peanuts and cilantro. Read more
- TaliaJune 27, 2013The awesome noodles in the sweet potato soup can be found in the cellophane noodle w/minced pork dish. For those days you don't want soup. Never happened to me, but a tip nonetheless!
- Ernesto GutierrezDecember 26, 2016If the dish is not originally spicy do not ask them to make it so. A delicious cumin lamb was ruined with endless crushed red pepper. The dumplings in chili oil were great.
- Ernesto GutierrezJuly 30, 2018Under new management. Menu is now hot pot or street style kebabs with few appetizers. Hot pot is per unit, you build your own set by picking each topping individually.
- Authentic Sichuan food reminds me of home. Huge bowls of broiled fish in chili sauce. Ox tongue and tripe cold dish appetizer is spicy and delicious.
- Real Cheap EatsJune 17, 2012Hot and sour sweet potato noodles are actually vermicelli, but forgive the misnomer and just enjoy the mouth-numbing slippery noodles in hot chili-oil broth, with ground beef, peanuts and cilantro. Read more
- BasDecember 11, 2012General Tso's is better than the stuff they're offering in Harlem. For anyone from the midwest, you'll be pleasantly surprised with how good this food compares to back home.
- Lori LuoAugust 10, 2014The quality of the dishes at Hot Kitchen has gone down over time. Nonetheless, it's still a good place to get traditional Sichuan dishes, like the dan dan mian and three pepper chicken.
- Sweet potato noodle soup and the dan dan noodles are some standouts, but we get something new every time and are always impressed. So spicy. So delicious.
- Serious EatsJuly 1, 2013Some of the best Chinese in the East Village, uncompromising in its use of chilies and Sichuan peppercorns.
- LilyApril 5, 2015Passable pork soup dumplings, pretty good steamed pork with mustard greens, and amazing braised fresh-killed chicken with potatoes.
- Tasting TableMay 1, 2012Try the village steamed pork with preserved mustard greens. Slices of braised belly are arranged around pungent pickled vegetables with a side of fluffy steamed buns: Read more
- Brittany VanBibberMarch 30, 2014Really solid Chinese food. Not too expensive. Attentive staff. Definitely recommend for delivery and take out as well!
- AmyOctober 13, 2012The ma po to fu was phenomenal. Would highly recommend the dumplings in red oil too. Spicy but delish. New favorite place.
- Michael ToddNovember 21, 2012Not as spicy as I thought, but good food that will leave you with an empty water glass for sure. The slices beef with chili was out favorite.
- Everything is spicy. Heaven. Frog with mix veggie in the hot pan is a must if you wanna try some really authentic Chinese food.
- Silas MorriseySeptember 22, 2015You could take a swim in the enormous plates piled high with food that this place serves.
- Marc JacobsJune 30, 2012When a Chinese restaurant segregates its "American Chinese Food" to the back of their menu, you hope the food is bound to be more authentic. Fortunately this is Chengdu-style Szechuan food done right.
- Rui ZhangJanuary 22, 2015The broiled fish in chili sauce is the best I've had in the city. Going there again today.
- JustinApril 21, 2012Only spot for soup dumplings (and they're good) in the east village, great fried rice. They also deliver.
- @JaumePrimeroJuly 2, 2013psyched to see non "ABC" style cuisine taking center stage. Ridiculously good value for the money.
- Kym P.September 24, 2012Get the hot pot, and double up on the lotus roots, fish balls, tripe, and enoki mushrooms.
- Ben RAugust 6, 2014The Szechuan lunch specials are a great deal. Ignore the Americanized part of the menu.
- Lilian WongFebruary 2, 2013Pretty good Sichuan food for America. Don't bother with the fish cooked in chili oil. 口水雞 (appetizer chicken in chili oil) was pretty good... Wish the chicken was more lean.
- Benjamin GoublyNovember 9, 2011Spicy dumplings and Mei Shan beef were both amazing! Pork buns not as tasty in comparison
- Spices are spot on. Double cooked pork and the mo po tofu are standout.
- Erik MichielsenOctober 23, 2012Try the sour string bean w/ minced pork (or for vegetarians substitute tofu)
- Amazing Sichuanese restaurant. This place reminds you why you pay East Village rent
- closest to real Chinese food I've had in a while, I love the 黑芝麻汤圆!
- Angel ZhangMay 27, 2012Everything is spicy and authentic!!! Love this restaurant! Highly recommended!
- The spicy & aromatic shrimp always takes me to my happy place
- Rachel SMarch 5, 2012Don't neglect the vegetables--the ginger pumpkin and spicy eggplant were amazing.
