David EvansOctober 6, 2013The staff at the Costa here are often peculiarly friendly without being obsequious. I always enjoy it, whether I really need a coffee or not.- For a good quality Indian restaurant nearby, try Anoki, it's 500 metres up Midland Road, then turn right onto London Road for 20 metres. SamSeptember 7, 2011If you leave the station at the wrong exit, you won't be able to go back because of the ticket barriers. It's a long walk to get to the other side of the station, so plan ahead which exit you'll need.- If you have an off peak ticket and arrive before 8.50am, ask the barrier guard to let you through. The ticket will not open the barrier and you will look like an amateur!
There's free Wi-Fi on the First Class Lounge on Platform 6! And you don't even need a first class ticket to use it. ;)
While your in Derby check out it's 3 main art venues, QUAD, Deda & Derby Museum and Art Gallery, lots of free fun stuff to do!

James MartinFebruary 6, 2011If you are looking for some great Indian food with really good menu deal head to @Shalimars. On right of road straight ahead when you come out station.
Save money on taxi fare by using a minicab firm rather than getting a yellow cab. Try western cars (01332 331331) or PJs (01332 202010).
Check with station staff where 'bus replacement services' leave from. Today it is @ the rear of the station adjacent to The Roundhouse. . The staff do not volunteer the information.

The metal benches are very cold on the posterior!! Bring a cushion if you intend sitting here a while!!- Includes WHSmith, Costa, Uppercrust, Pumpkin, Hero Bar, ATMs at the main entrance.
The Cloud free Wi-Fi available from Upper Crust on Platform 1
Two good pubs close by - Brunswick (out station turn right, 5 min walk) and Alexandra Hotel. Both worth a visit.
If you want disabled assistance here, forget it. Staff are very stand offish and keep no record of any bookings.
The new waiting rooms are warm and clean so don't ever worry about arriving too early for your train.

Need a cab? Follow midland road to the left out of station, 100yrds to Albatross taxis (opposite the post office). Loads cheaper than the yellow cabs right outside the station.- Get 20% off at Upper Crust and Cafe Ritazza with a Bite Card (www.bitecard.co.uk)
If you want to use the buffet between platforms 4 and 6 but don't want to buy overpriced food and drink, buy a cheap newspaper instead... Or the Private Eye.

Kurt FarrarFebruary 2, 2012The hand dryers in the toilets don't stay on long enough to dry/warm your hands, once they go off they won't come back on.
Parking for £3 a day off Hudson Way. Cheaper than station parking (£6).
Don't bother queueing for tickets. Just use the machines it's so much quicker
Ticket Barriers ARE IN OPERATION HERE!. Retain ticket after travelling. Or face a fine at the Gates!.
