A place that has existed forever, the staff are friendly and work as a team in a way that I've rarely seen. When the place is busy, every customer is every staff person's responsibility. Great food.
Opened in 1962 by Monroe Sorenson. The original location at Rio Grande & Mountain was demolished for a hotel and the restaurant moved to Loma Blvd in 1975.
I absolutely loved the food at Monroe's. Their enchiladas were amazing and the staff couldn't have been more friendly or welcoming to Albuquerque. The local beer was great as well!
super casual restaurant with really yummy food. recommendations: sopapillas with honey, christmaschicken enchiladas, indian taco (taco toppings on top of fry bread).
This sign may have been moved from the original 1962 location, but I’m not sure. The restaurant was bought by Miguel & Kathy Diaz in 1976 and a second location opened in 1985 on Osuna Avenue.
Recommend the chicken and carne adovadaenchiladas. Skip the sopapilladessert (not freshly made) and the margaritas (no hard liquor license, so they use wine). Have a beer instead.
Monroe's has been serving the best in New Mexican cuisine to local residents and their families. Monroe's began as a small drive-in near Old Town in Albuquerque, specializing in reasonably priced - high quality New Mexican food.
