If an Edinburgh train is very full and about to depart, it might be worth waiting 20 minutes and getting on the next departure for Edinburgh in 30 minutes time (to get a seat before everyone else!)
If you need to get to Edinburgh and return on a different date on an off-peak time, get an open return ticket to Eskbank in order to save money. There are no off-peak open return tickets to Edinburgh.
If the Edinburgh trains via Falkirk are crowded, consider getting an Edinburgh (via Airdrie) train from the low level platforms. These trains are fast and direct taking just 10 minutes longer.
During Festival, trains to Edinburgh can be V busy, but are every 15 mins, so if you queue at platform for next one (look for the platform no. on the board.) you have a good chance of getting a seat.
ScotRail refuse to put up platform information until 15 seconds before the Edinburgh train is due to leave, so use traintimes.org.uk/glq/edb to find out the playform in advance.
If you're buying a ticket with cash, and using one of the automatic machines, make sure you're using the right one, as at least one of them is card only.
No cash machines unless you have a ticket to travel and are inside the barriers. Go past Boots the Chemists turn left at the exit. Down the hill and across the road there are 2 machines.
