- Trish PMarch 18, 2013Concur with all tips including 'xiao long bao' & 'chilli wontons'. If you forget to book, head to sister restaurant, China Red and order these delights on touchscreen.
- The xiao long bao easily rival Taiwan's Din Tai Fung; spring onion pancake, spicy wantons and the Szechuan tofu are great additions. The sauce in the latter calls for rice - too good not to finish!
- chank oneMay 23, 2014I challenge you to order a bad dish. Just try. It's not possible. The dumplings are next level, they're all marvelous. Also, book so you don't have to sit downstairs, sitting downstairs is a punish.
- L¡vAugust 3, 2023Boiled pork dumplings are juicy and delicious. Chinese broccoli with garlic was great & honey chicken is fresh with lots of flavour 👌🏼
- Sam ZivotJune 22, 2012Flavorful, succulent, deliciousness. This is dumpling heaven. Here culinary bliss is wrapped in a thin noodly blanket filled with a symphony of pallet pleasing goodness. A cant miss dining experience
- TomfooleryMay 15, 2015Not the best place for gluten free folk as the highlight is definitely the dumplings. Though the 'fish in dry chilli' and the 'hot n sour soup'are excellent, but avoid the eggplant with minced pork
- Lance FoeblasterJanuary 18, 2015Great vegetarian dumplings and Szechuan eggplant. Service has improved a lot. A bit more expensive than your usual dumpling fare but worth the mark up in quality.
- Brad ChouAugust 3, 2014A lot of people are saying the Xiao Long Bao are better than Din Tai Fung - I disagree (unless Din Tai Fung dropped). Flavour on par but (the big skill part) thin skin - is not there! A bit too thick.
- Adam FMarch 12, 2012Possibly the best dumpling I have ever had. Move over din tai fung. Here comes the real deal. And it's much better value as well. Don't even look at the menu. Order the first two dishes.
- T MJune 26, 2016One of melbournes most popular dumpling restaurants. More expensive than most. Has a great atmosphere and upmarket feel about it.
- MichelleNovember 22, 2016Good service- we had a group of 5 with no booking and the maitre d was kind enough to let us in even though a few of us were running late.
- Jason BeamanFebruary 26, 2013Great food. Laksa Chicken Fillet just beautiful. Reasonably priced. Upstairs seating much better than downstairs. Will definitely be back.
- Karma Trinley ZangpoFebruary 7, 2014Don't be put off if ground floor looks full as there are an extra two levels above. Kids are welcome and high chairs provided.
- dhania parakkatilNovember 16, 2014The best dumplings I've had! Great food n great service! Very diff to find a place without booking.
- snarkleAugust 6, 2014The xiao long bao dumplings from Hutong are one of the most delicious things you will ever eat.
- Christian HamoyApril 12, 2015Food was great. Solid 8. Pork dumplings and spicy tofu were awesome. Soup dumplings (xiao long bao) were average.
- AmandaFebruary 15, 2013You must eat the spinach dumplings! The staff were great, too - fast and helpful service, even on a busy busy night.
- Aggie ClarkNovember 16, 2016The peanutty spicy chicken was lovely, and the seafood dim sums. Service was a bit blunt, mind!
- HaruoFebruary 25, 2013Actually someone's tip about the shao long bao being frozen is wrong. Just took this pic of them making it fresh!
- SteveFebruary 4, 2016The dumplings and xiao long bao are ok, but now that Din Tai Fung is in town...
- Amber NelsonApril 3, 2015Dumplings with soup and those with chile oil are amazing but they are all pretty good!
- Hyun AhnJuly 12, 2017First time I went they said they were booked out. Several empty tables seen. After waiting 15 mins or so they found us a table. So called famous xiao long bao and soy chilli wontons were just okay
- Xiao long Bao are decent - still slightly on the doughy side (major problem with Chinese food in Australia), try the spring onion pancake as an add-on. Good service
- tueynguyenFebruary 9, 2012the dumplings, oh the dumplings. it's hard to go past the shao-long bao and the spicy wonton. be prepared to wait for a table.
- Neil LeeJanuary 1, 2012Spicy wontons pack a punch. Try the pork dumplings - dough is full and filling is tender. Spinach dumplings are great too.
- Elizabeth ZanettiFebruary 16, 2018It's not just the dumplings, the broth that is served with them if you order it is so delicious, nourishing and healing.
- Virata GamanyApril 2, 2018Wanton chili dumplings are decent though the Xiao Long Pau is a disappointment. The dough is too thick.. expect better given all the hype & high rankings
- Margot KilgourAugust 17, 2014Delish dumplings but can be really busy. China Red is a good substitute nearby.
- LauraSeptember 6, 2011Haven't eaten here yet, waiting for my friends to arrive - but the girl behind me just said the wontons with chilli sauce are amazing! I think I know what I'll be trying!
- Casper ten KateJuly 24, 2013Great specialty dumplings, made right under your nose. Personal favorite: Shan Long Bao
- Elissa MullerMarch 27, 2012Shao-long bao might be the signature but I can't go past the wantons with chilli
- The food is great, service super fast!Xiao Long Bao are awesome!! Only bad thing - the chairs. Uncomfortable as hell!! I guess it helps turn the tables over quickly.
- Mark DoddsDecember 22, 2009Eat the Shao-Long Bao (meat and soup dumplings) and Spicy Wontons, then slap yourself a high-five for making such an amazing decision.
- Nick WongJanuary 24, 2016Please don't waste your time ordering a la carte; go for the dumplings 小笼包. Hot & Sour soup was quite spicy.
- Virata GamanyApril 2, 2018Wanton chili dumplings are decent... Though the Xiao long Pau is overrated .. the dough is too thick for all the hype...
- Jackie FeiOctober 9, 2017The soup dumplings taste good, but don't quite meet the standards for authenticity
- Viet Ha Tran PhamAugust 12, 2014Too much hype!. Xiao long bao is good but nowhere near those at Din tai fung. The pan fried dumpling is too doughy w little fillings. Beef in spicy oil is not recommended. Service is low-average
- frank yuwonoAugust 29, 2010Book in advance! It was so busy when I came on Sunday that we had to wait for an hour..... (YES, it was worth the wait!)
