Built in 1923 & packed with ornate murals and frescos. Its tiled indoor pool is especially cool. The place for business types who have to stay in the heart of Downtown, history fans, and movie buffs. Read more
This was a super surprise in terms of a hotel. The history is rich and the Oscar was created here in 9127. The cocktails weren’t that great at the bar but the opulence and details are fascinating!
Romantic three-course dinner at Smeraldi's on Valentine's Day, 5-10 p.m. includes champagne for ea adult and long-stemmed rose among Italian-Renaissance architecture; res recommended:213-612-1562.
a nice place to visit (amazing architecture at the lobby) but not to stay. rooms are old, dated, somewhat smelly, and have some kind of eerie vibe.. I'd rather stay at the boutique hotel next door.
AWESOME Hotel, if you are a movie buff then you need to come here to see where the Oscars were originally held, its like a scene out of the Shining, History to the 3rd level, just amazing & great serv
This place was a great venue for @nawbola Holiday Party when I visited w/ my @rivvid peeps. They also have live jazz. It was wonderful & takes place every Friday & Saturday night @8pm
The grand dame of LA hotels. The public areas and meeting rooms are beautiful. The banquet meal was good. A friend stayed over night and said the guest room was tired and outdated.
Prices are way to high for a hotel that is in dire need of upgrades. 1 bud light and a jack and coke for $17.50 in the hotel bar. walked four blocks south to Hanks tavern. great little bar.
This hotel is absolutely gorgeous. Street noise in the rooms can be loud, but overall I love the place. The lobby is frequently used in movies and TV shows, for what it's worth.

Beautiful building, wonderful service and awesome location... but the hotel is in desperate need of updating. Cleanliness of the room left a lot to be desired.

A little disappointed in the hotel. It's showing its age. Our room was really musty smelling and the fixtures are outdated. I thought this hotel was keeping up with the times.
At its opening in 1923, this was the largest U.S. hotel west of Chicago. It originally had 1,500 guest rooms and was later restructured to the current 683 rooms.
Check out the "Rendezvous Court" - the well-preserved original lobby of the hotel, across the hall from the current lobby. There's also a hall full of photos from the first Academy Awards events.

The Prom scene from the John Hughes classic Pretty in Pink was shot in the Crystal Court. Andi should have picked The Duckman- he wound up on star on CBS.
Enjoy the grand setting where the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences held its first Awards Ceremony. Legend says the "Oscar" was first sketched by Cedric Gibbons in one of the hotel's napkins
