- SiobhánJune 23, 2018Came here with a massive group when Veselka was packed. The pierogi were amazing and the beer really hit the spot. A nice hidden gem that doesn't look like it's there from the outside.
- Justin OrdovezaSeptember 3, 2017The Ukrainian sampler platter is a full meal of stuffed cabbage, kielbasa and pierogies(vareniki). The restaurant is comfortable but the restrooms are downstairs.
- Elizabeth BursteinFebruary 20, 2017Borscht very sweet, combo platter w meat is good. Has some sort of stuffed cabbage that's delicious, and the dumplings are also delicious. Nice calm interior, like grandmas house
- MelissaAugust 7, 2017Varenyky. Get them boiled and stuffed like Christmas geese with seasoned potato or with mix of sauerkraut and mushroom.
- Lina ArtistaMarch 15, 2022I was happy to see so many Ukrainians here! Food was disappointing. French fries, Cesar salad, shrimps. Seriously? It’s time to open real Ukrainian restaurants that will feel and taste like home.💙💛
- L BDecember 20, 2013halusky: a plate of the dumplings topped with caramelized sauerkraut and bacon load up on the restaurant's quality sour cream & spread it liberally over your plate of dumplings. Don't shy on the salt
- Wejdan ✨January 6, 2017I remember coming here for the stuffed cabbage. One with mushroom and the other with meat and was really great! So sad it's not on the menu anymore.
- Kate FurmanDecember 20, 2015Try the combo platter if you're not sure what to get. The menu is extensive and good value for money.
- Real Cheap EatsNovember 5, 2012Cheese blintzes taste like the East Village of bygone days. Each is filled with lightly sweetened farmer cheese & fried in butter until the edges are just crisp enough while the middle remains tender. Read more
- Yera HaFebruary 18, 2015Authentic spot reminiscent of grandma's house. Get the chefs special with cheese + potato pierogi and try the beef stroganoff!
- Great cheap grub in a cosy dining room, like you're eating at grandma's house. The pierogis are good, so is the goulash and the breaded cutlet is delicious.
- The Local East VillageAugust 14, 2011"The sauerkraut pierogis came, with a little puddle of fried onions, a dense reduction, in their midst, and a paper cup of sour cream. Eyza, a connoisseur of pierogis, was impressed." --James Traub Read more
- Alen of YorkJuly 3, 2010Come in at 7 for Tango lesson (bring student ID for discount). Then get a table at the restaurant and order the Veal Goulash or Vareniki w/sauerkraut and mushrooms. The best ukrainian food in nyc!
- Danika LandersApril 18, 2013More authentic and more personality than Veselka. Also, they have tango lessons and practicas throughout the week. Amazing.
- Rae @ Ciona Taylor ProductionsNovember 12, 2011Velselka is boring compared to UEVR. The veggie shnitzel is delicious and the pierogies are also yummy. Get half and half either steamed of fried.
- Claudia EspinelJanuary 7, 2013lovely staff. The Halusky and the Letcho are amazing and If you have room for desert try the Blintezes.
- Serious EatsDecember 19, 2013Eastern European community center and restaurant better for the warm, comfy vibe than the food.
- The Hungarian goulash with potato pancakes is especially belly-warming comfort food.
- Polina WeitzNovember 21, 2023Food is ok, but not amazing. The pierogi are solid (esp the ones filled with meat or potatoes). Wasn't a huge fan of the blintzes or the hash browns. Service was efficient, but the decor is lacking.
- Evgeniy DankovtsevNovember 6, 2016It's old-school, more like a cafe or stolovaya from eastern europe 90s, but food is quite decent for a price
- Stephen WJune 19, 2010Not sure how often tango night happens here, but find out and GO! A uniquely beautiful scene. All ages dancing together cheek to cheek in the EV -- loved it!
- AaronFebruary 26, 2011Great food and a cozy atmosphere. The walk through the buildings hall is a bit surreal.
- Lauren HowellJanuary 13, 2011Ukranian borscht... $3.50 for a bowl? Can't beat that! Delicious food, cozy atmosphere.
- Eugene KimbergMay 13, 2019Not impressed. If you want to try authentic Ukrainian food go to Brooklyn.
- Better than Veselka and more homey. Come here instead but don't tell your friends.
- 🄵🄴🄻🄸🅇 dnǝʇsɔɥDecember 15, 2017Tourist trap with bland food, unattentive service, and missing drink prices on the menu.
