Carl Schurz Park is a perfect place to relax for those who look for grassy areas outside of Central Park. A small field is perfect for sunbathicng or reading and a dog park lets pets run around.
This park is an UES gem. Beautiful walk ways, views and plenty of places to lounge or picnic. Also the home of Gracie Mansion. Bring your dog! Excellent dog parks for both large and small pups.

Great secret entrance for this dog park at 60th and York. It's a ramp closed to cars, but works for runners and people to get to the river walk - it will save you going the long way at 63rd.

Parks Commissioner Robert Moses convinced City authorities to designate Gracie Mansion as the official residence of the Mayor, and in 1942, Fiorello H. La Guardia moved in.
After Gracie sold his house, the property eventually was appropriated by the City of New York in 1896 and the 11 acres that came with the home would later be formed into Carl Schurz Park.

watch out cause this park is new york city's rat central for sure - was standing on a corner chatting with a neighbor one evening and within 15 minutes counted 9 rats skittering by!
I concur with the past comments. This park is a gem in The UES. The pool is one of the best I've ever swum at. And this park is riddled with rats. Around 530 pm in the summer = Rats Central.
Now the upper east side has a shake shack!!! The location is great next to an HSBC in case you got broke friends. They have complimentatry dog parking, and water too! Seating inside is large and there

Bar Pleiades is one of the most low key and lush places to enjoy a quiet drink. It's great for a date- you can take a stroll by the park shortly after.

Near FDR Drive in the 60s, St. Catherine’s Park is popular with the after-school crowd. A tennis wall, handball courts, and small running track are used frequently for friendly pick-up games.
