David Alexander: Skylight is my favourite / default lunchtime venue. I almost always go for the homemade £5 daily special or the frittata + salads. Staff are lovely, prices are reasonable and there's WiFi.
Heli Heartland: Jacket potatoes are excellent. Try with tuna & (home made) coleslaw.

Ale Tower: Lovely chilled out spot just inside from the canal with authentic udon and soba noodles on cold or hot broth. Little play area for kids and outside patio when the sun is shining.
Peter Gordon: It's worth tracking down this new peaceful Japanese café along the Haggerston canal basin. Great coffee. Try the avacado toast with wasabi soy sauce and nori.
