The mushroom bowl is v good and a nice break from animal proteins. What a nice spot to have in the neighborhood

This is an awesome Japanese restaurant from the same people who run Raku in the East Village. Awesome $1 oyster happy hour every day from 5:30 - 7pm. The pork katsu is amazing!

Super high quality lunch boxes with thought and care put into every ingredient. I’ve tried the Pork Katsu and Karaage boxes, along with the Egg Sandwich, and all were delicious.
They have the best hojicha latte and bento boxes! You can also get japanese soy sauce and condiments here.

Udon with shrimp and vegetable tempera was excellent! The udon noodles were especially good.
Staff Pick! Stephanie (Education): Gen has high-quality, fresh sushi at good prices. The patio out back is a lovely spot for dining in the spring and summer. Enjoy the green or red bean ice cream.

The salmon in the grilled salmon bento was maybe the best salmon I've ever had. Unfortunately the rest of the bento was so so!
Best Katsu pork in town, and try the tempura chicken roll, they are so good if you can't eat seafood

I have been going there for years and have become 'hi and bye' friends with the owners. They are sweet and the servers have always been good - friendly and efficient. The food is beyond great.
