Get in early and find a seat in the first car exiting the city. It will be the first car entering NYC. Helps to avoid the crush of humanity as you try and make your appointment in the Big Apple.

Used my iPhone passbook app today and it scanned perfectly on quick track, told me that my boarding pass was fine. Then it scanned for the conductor checking tickets. Such a hassle-free way to travel!

If ride in on the Shoreline East & are switching to the Metro North to New York, hold onto your Shoreline East Receipt-it allows you to pay cash on the Metro North train w/o having to pay the penalty

Gorgeous historically significant waiting room, lovingly restored. Take a moment to look at the model trains displayed thoughout.

Enjoy the refreshing décor at New Haven Railroad Station. The interior features limestone walls, ornate ceilings, chandeliers and stainless steel ceilings in the tunnels leading up to the trains.

Gorgeous tunnel from the trains to the station. Odd to find a modern tunnel under such a historic building and there doesn't seem to be any architectural connection but I love the tunnel regardless...

Even though the website says cash only, you can buy a ticket with a credit card. Also, if transferring from the Shoreline East, show your ticket to get the station fare!

#Amtrak trains usually get in about 1-2 minutes after Metro North trains depart so if trying to save a few bucks, expect to wait an hour or so to catch the next one. There are @Amtrak red caps here.

Trains usually arrive right on time, so if you’re anxious to get on the platform early — don’t be. Stay warm / cool inside and head up 2 mins early.

When headed to NYC take the metro north but keep in mind peak Vs off peak. M-f try to leave after 8:18 to save $5. Also buy your ticket at the machine Vs being unprepared on board as you'll pay more

The lobby ceiling is the only nice thing about this train station. Food offerings limited to mini-SBarro, Subway and 2 Dunkins.

The smell of Subway diffuses into the main hall of the train station and makes the entire building smell like rotten lettuce. Sit as far away as possible—after you grab a sugar cookie, of course.

When you're connecting from Shoreline East, make sure you have cash to pay for your Metro North ticket on board. I had to run to buy my ticket inside and barely made my "connecting" train.

During the winter months, stay upstairs in the station instead of waiting out near the track until a couple minutes before your train is expected. It's warmer and not as crowded!

Women's room doesn't have trash disposals in the stalls. That means you have to toss out any feminine hygiene products used in the trash in front of everyone. Awesome.
