Markus Aarstad: At 360m, this lookout point offers great views of Sugar Loaf mountain, the Maracanã Stadium, Guanabara Bay and Christ the Redeemer. Access by car is via Paineiras Road.

Travel + Leisure: At the understatedly chic Fasano, Philippe Starck–designed rooms have billowing silk curtains and Sergio Rodrigues chairs. We love the rooftop pool's knockout views of Ipanema’s crescent-shaped beach.
Cacharrón: Best-terrace-swimming-pool world wide. Period. Service is great on top of that. And what a sunset.
João Pedro Locatelli Cezar: Perfection in form of a hotel. At breakfast order the hidden menu Eggs Benedict, simply divine. Also watch the sunset from the pool on the rooftop.
