For less than 10 bucks the Oakland Zoo is a great place for a nice casual relaxing day. Not one of the biggest zoo's but always one of my favorite close to home faves.

Exellent for bird watching, jogging, dog walking and biking. Well maintained, wide trails. Clean and usually fully stocked bathrooms every 1/2 mile or so.

They'll make the soondubu super spicy if you ask them, a pretty decent Korean tofu soup place, with the old school community eat bench tables.
Great service. Yummy tofu soup. The pumpkin pancake is great. Also the spicy pork was delicious.

I've tried their Ethiopian and Bolivian coffee, both are delicious and cone dripped. A nice breakfast is their poached eggs and toast w/jam!
While Philz, Peet's, and Starbucks have all declared war on Coles, the strong local following, poached eggs on toast, and great outdoor seating will hopefully keep this independent shop afloat.
Great sandwiches, but be prepared to be accosted by bums on the benches outside.
A total zoo at peak lunch hour, but usually rockin' good tunes and they keep the service great and friendly under pressure! Tasty and creative sammies!

Top spot for pizza in Oakland, outdoor space with fire pits and string lights perfect venue for beers with friends.
The out door sitting area is cheerful and it's a cool place to hang out with family and friends. The pizzas are original and their Veggie pizza is a delight. The decor is welcoming. I do recommend
