The Shrimp Cocktail/Coctel de Camarones, Mexican style. Very good sized w lots of shrimp/avocado/tomato-onion/cucumber. Will fill you up. Ask for tortilla chips, lots of lemon/hot sauce/ketchup!

Tamales are always dank, super-stuffed, and never dry! Tamale breakfast is crazy good. Carnitas just melt, so tender. Also, the beans are out of this world. A true East LA classic.

The must-visit spot on Olvera St: get the lengua (tongue) and al pastor tacos. The restaurant is tiny with five or six tables, so get your order to go and enjoy your meal in the park instead.
*This* is the place to go on Olivera Street. Forget about fancier places - this is more authentic. Little seating, so go during an off-hour or take it to go. Love the tamales, enchiladas & beans.
