I had the snobby misconception that sushi should just be fish and sushi rice. gari smashed those expectations. I've never tasted toppings used in such a creative manner without diminishing the fish
As someone who grew up next to a sushi bar in LA and has been a connoisseur since 5, I can say that this is by-far the best sushi I've had in NYC. Sit at the bar and order omakase and a nice saké.
An exquisite raw fish experience with uniquely crafted pieces. Try the tuna with tofu cream, flounder with lotus chip, and the foie gras sushi.
The shiitake in the shiitake roll is served slightly warm, and between that and the yumminess of the sushi rice and nori, the whole roll tastes just incredible.
Go for the spicy seafood soup. It's the bomb!!!!

Greatest neighborhood sushi in NYC. Get the tuna crispy rice, miso black cod roll, green salad (ginger dressing is amazing), and the salmon crunchy roll

Great service, James was the man. Really well executed and creative fish dishes. A bit pricey but could be worse. Barramundi was excellent.
Happy Hour 4-6pm. $1 east or west coast oysters. They also have some interesting cocktails.

Don't let the small place fool you! The sushi and sashimi is so delicious! The rice is standard to sub-standard based on a fried rice I ordered. This place I would definitely recommend for its fish!

Very cool decor, like the inside of a yacht. Good service, good restaurant week menu. Amazing desserts. Pricey. Interesting mix of cool crowd (obviously, Soho) and suits.

While still some of the most creative, tasty sushi in town, the UES location remains hands down the best of all the Gari restaurants.
Get the Omekase (Chef's choice) and prepare to have your mind blown.

Great fish, but I don't understand the music they play here. Madonna and disco don't make for a relaxing dinner. Put on some jazz!
