Had a combo, spicy tuna panini and spicy black bean soup for $8! Came on a Thursday night and there was a live jazz band playing. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Order their shakshuka/shakshooka (poached eggs in Tunisian tomato sauce with feta & pita) & their mallawach (Yemeni puff pastry pancake with a hardboiled egg, chopped salad & spicy tomato sauce).
Everything was on point: sourdough bread, white bean soup, spinach ravioli, grilled porkchop
The braised short rib hash is to die for, I will keep dreaming about it everyday for the rest of my life.
Hidden gem on Upper West Side with American/Mediterranean cuisine. Chicken, risotto, and codfish all delicious. Beautiful high ceilings and old fashioned decor.
If you're cheap, get the black bean soup for $3.25. It's huge and comes with chips+sauce. It's good but not the best thing on the menu.

Old school restaurant that doesn't take reservations. The mushrooms stuffed with crab meat are a good snack. Be sure to get a paella though, it's big enough for two. Cheap cocktails, around $7 here.
Awesome, hard to find busy Old School Spanish. Great Paella, veal dishes, and the mussels are pure heaven. The waiters are in their 60s and we're not sure if they are speaking English, but who cares.

Really great sandwiches and plates. Roasted leg of lamb sandwich is my favorite. Only counter seating though. Take out or deliver.
Start w/the Black Bean soup & Mushroom Toast. Follow that w/the Warm Smoked Salmon w/a glass of their Portuguese red wine. Not a fan of Salmon? Get the Shrimp Tagliolini w/shaved roasted ricotta. Yum!

The spicy black bean soup is *really* spicy.
The roast beef sandwich and mediterranean tuna panini are the way to go. Ciabatta is pressed to the perfect crispy/chewy ratio. And everything is pretty cheap for Soho, perfect lunch-to-go spot. $7-8

My favorite vegetarian dish is #16 Tsel Gyathuk Ngopa, which is sauteed noodles mixed with fresh green vegetables and tofu. Make sure you add the chili sauce that you get on the side.

Their special today was three bean chili (vegan) soup and it was YUMMY! A bit on the spicy side, if your taste buds can handle it, but definitely a winner!

Their beef empanadas are the best I have EVER tasted! I walk outside in below zero weather just to get them!
Get yellow rice, chicken stew and plantains it's so good. One platter is enough for two people or two meals.
